Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Go to Start > Settings > System > Display Settings.

Under the Scale & layout section,

  • Make sure Scale is set to the recommended value for your display.
  • Make sure the display resolution is set to the recommended value for your display.

(This is an example screenshot taken from my device. This is just to indicate that the values are set to the recommended size for my display.) Your display values may change.

In addition to this,

  • Open the Device Manager.
  • Expand the arrow next to display adapters.
  • Right-click your GPU driver and click Update.
  • Select Search automatically for available drivers and click Update.

Let me know if you still need more help.

    Dear Ismail Ayoub

Thank you for your question and for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand how disruptive it can be when the entire screen (desktop icons, apps, and websites) suddenly appears larger than expected. At this point, I recommend that you review and try the steps provided in both the AI generated answer and the Independent Advisor’s answer on your thread. Those replies typically include the most relevant checks for this scenario.  To help narrow this down, could you please share a few details below?

    • Does the larger view affect everything (desktop + apps), or only web pages inside your browser?
    • When the issue occurs, do you see any magnifying glass indicator, or does pressing Windows + Esc change anything?

In the meantime, here are a few basic steps you can try:

1.Check if Magnifier is enabled (system-wide zoom)

    • Press Windows + Esc to exit Magnifier if it’s running.
    • Or go to Settings > Accessibility > Magnifier and turn it Off.

2.Confirm “Text size” hasn’t been increased (affects menus and UI)

    • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Text size
    • Set Text size back to the default (typically 100%)
    • Sign out/in if prompted, then re-check how icons and apps appear.

3.If it’s mainly websites: reset browser zoom and accessibility zoom

If desktop/apps look normal but web pages are large:

    • In the browser (Edge/Chrome/Firefox), press Ctrl + 0 to reset page zoom to 100%
    • Also check browser settings for Default zoom/Page zoom set above 100%

4.Quick keyboard checks that can accidentally change UI size

    • Ctrl + mouse wheel (in some apps) can zoom content
    • Win + + enables Magnifier; Win + Esc exits it

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

I hope these steps help restore your display back to its normal size quickly and make your desktop and apps comfortable to use again. Wishing you a smooth experience getting your screen settings back to the way you expect, so you can continue using your PC without any interruptions.

It sounds like your display settings may have changed, which can cause everything on your screen, including icons and websites, to appear larger than normal. This can happen due to changes in the DPI (dots per inch) settings or display resolution.

To address this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize.
    2. Click on Display to access the DPI settings.
    3. Adjust the DPI setting to a smaller value and log off or restart your computer to see if that resolves the issue. You may need to change the setting a few times to find the optimal size.

If the problem persists, it might be related to the application you are using, as some applications may not scale properly on high DPI displays. You can check if the application is DPI-aware using tools like Process Explorer.

If you're using Microsoft Edge, you can also check the zoom settings within the browser itself by pressing Ctrl + 0 to reset the zoom level to default.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to further investigate your display settings or consider updating your graphics drivers.
