Issue when going to a live teams meeting

Everytime I book a meeting on teams, when i go in to start the meeting I can see the person i am meeting with, but my video and the microphone wont work and it says not available or someone else is using it. If I go in to add another account it does show a company i used to work for with my old email address. How do I delete that off my teams so it will actually work when i use my personal subscription version. thanks [Moderator note: Personal information removed]

Hi all, thanks very much for your comments and recommendations. I have requested for everything to do with my old work account to be deleted including all of the credentials et. I did manage to chat with Michelle at MS and she has performed all of these steps and I can now advise that everything is working again. This also caused my laptop camera to stop working so I had to go and buy a new external camera. After the reset and restart, walah! My HP Laptop camera is miraculously working again! Amazing how wide the problem can spread. Great outcome. Thanks all, Best regards, [Moderator note: Personal information removed]

The old work account is likely signing in to Teams instead of the personal account, which can cause devices (camera/mic) to appear unavailable. Ensure that the correct (personal) account is used in Teams.

    Steps to resolve:

    1. Sign out of the wrong account in Teams
      • Open Microsoft Teams.
      • Select the profile picture (top right).
      • Sign out of the work/school account so that Teams returns to the sign-in screen.
    2. Sign in with the correct account
      • On the sign-in screen, choose the personal Microsoft account (the one tied to the personal subscription).
      • If the work account appears automatically, choose the option to use another account and enter the personal account credentials.
    3. Remove or stop using the old work account in Teams Free
      • If Teams opens with the personal account but still shows the old work account under “Add another account,” do not select it when joining or starting meetings.
      • If the interface shows only Activity, Community, Chat, and Calendar (no Teams app on the left or bottom), that indicates a personal account session. If the goal is to use the work/school features, sign in with a work or school account instead.
      • For more details on adding or switching accounts in Teams Free, see the guidance in “Signed in to the wrong account in Microsoft Teams Free” and “add another account within Microsoft Teams Free.”
    4. Check microphone and camera access
      • After confirming that the correct account is signed in, verify that the mic and camera work:
        • In a meeting, ensure the mic icon is not muted.
        • Check that the physical mic or headset is not muted.
        • Confirm device privacy settings allow Teams to use the microphone and camera (for example, in Windows or Mac OS privacy settings, and in the browser if using Teams on the web).
      • If people still cannot hear anything, follow the steps in “My microphone isn't working in Microsoft Teams.”

If the issue persists after using the correct account and confirming device permissions, contact Microsoft support or ask in the Microsoft Teams Community.

    Hi @Craig Parsons,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience when Teams is prevented from using the camera and microphone and your previous work account shows up when joining a Teams meeting even after your system admin has attempted to delete every work account. I can totally understand how disruptive it is to be not able to use your designated account for your Teams meeting and use camera and microphone during the meeting.

To better understand the issue and assist you with targeted solutions, could you please share the following information:

    1. Which device and operating system are you using (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android)?
    2. How are you joining the meeting: Teams desktop app, Teams on the web (Edge or Chrome), or mobile app?
    3. Are you working directly on your PC, or through Remote Desktop or a virtual desktop (VDI)?
    4. Are you using a built in camera and mic, or an external webcam and headset (USB or Bluetooth)?

In the meantime, if you are using Windows on the Teams desktop app, please try these steps.

    1. Close anything that could be using the camera or microphone (Zoom, Skype, browser tabs with video, the Windows Camera app), then restart your device.
    2. Check Windows permissions
    • Open Settings, then Privacy & security.
    • Select Camera and turn on Camera access and Let desktop apps access your camera.

    • Select Microphone and turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone.

    1. Check device selection inside Teams
    • Open Teams, select more (...), then Settings.
    • Select Devices.
    • Confirm the correct Camera and Microphone are selected. Run Make a test call to validate.User's image
    1. Reset Teams app
    • Go to device settings, select Apps > Installed apps, and then type Microsoft Teams in the search box.
    • Locate the New Microsoft Teams app from the results, select the More options button (...) on the right, and then select Advanced options.
    • In the Reset section, select Reset.

    • Restart Teams.
    1. Clear cached credentials in Credential Manager

Sometimes outdated or corrupted cached credentials can cause old work account to show up.

    • Open Control Panel
    • Go to Credential Manager
    • Select Windows Credentials
    • Remove any entries related to:
      • Microsoft Teams
      • Microsoft Office
      • Microsoft 365
      • ADAL / MSAL / MicrosoftAccount
Credential Manager example shows two entries for Office
    • Restart the device and sign back into Teams.

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow the steps above and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can continue working together to resolve the issue.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out so I can continue to support you. If you found the response useful, please consider marking it as accepted, as this may help other community members who are looking for similar guidance.
