Microsoft Loop will not load workspaces

I've tried the following so far:

Updating the app on my laptop.

Logged out of all office apps multiple times.

Rebooted.

Cleared cache and browsing history.

Tried the incognito browser, and both chrome and edge.

Tried through the M365 portal.

Tried accessing through Teams

I tried the desktop app.

I deleted my Identity Cache.

We have toggled the license switch off and on for Loop in M365

Any other suggestions?

Thank you for that information. We found that substrate.office.com was being blocked. Once we allowed that Loop started working again.

    Hi, Jenni Keister

This looks less like a problem with the app on that one laptop, and more like Loop not pulling the workspace list correctly from the back end. If a page or workspace opens from a direct URL but the main Loop home stays blank, the content may still be there and only the dashboard view is failing.

Besides the solutions provided by Q&A Assist, here are some suggestions you can try:

Ask a teammate who can still see the workspace to send the exact workspace or page link. If that opens, you at least have a workaround, and it also confirms the workspace itself is still there even if it is missing from the Loop home screen.

It is recommended that IT check the company firewall or proxy settings. Loop needs the Microsoft 365 URLs allowed, plus WebSocket traffic to *.svc.ms and *.office.com, otherwise loading and live workspace data can fail.

If access is urgent, it is recommended that a team owner create a Loop workspace as a tab in a standard Teams channel. Some users who cannot create a workspace themselves can still join and use one that was created for the channel.

If the workspace has completely disappeared from the dashboard, it is recommended that the admin check SharePoint deleted containers. A workspace can still exist but not show in Loop, and deleted containers may be restorable.

Thank you for your patience in reading, I hope this information has been helpful to you.

Based on the described behavior and the steps already tried, focus on three areas that commonly block Loop workspaces from loading: licensing, admin configuration, and required backend services (OneDrive/SharePoint/Exchange).

    1. Confirm the right Microsoft 365 license for full Loop workspace features
Even if Loop appears in the portal, full workspace capabilities require specific plans. For work/school (Microsoft Entra) accounts, verify that the user has one of these:
      • Microsoft 365 Business Standard or Business Premium
      • Microsoft 365 E3 or E5
      • Microsoft 365 A3 or A5
      • Microsoft 365 E3/E5/A3/A5 Extra Features (with a corresponding Office 365 or Microsoft 365 plan)
      • Microsoft 365 Copilot
      These plans unlock:
      1. Creating new Loop workspaces
      2. Adding members to Loop workspaces
      3. Removing members from Loop workspaces
If only an Office 365 E3/E5/A3/A5 plan is assigned (without the Microsoft 365 or Extra Features license), workspace capabilities will be limited even if the Loop app itself opens. Admins should check and, if needed, enable the Extra Features license as described in the Loop access documentation.
    2. Check if workspace creation is disabled by admin policy
Even with the correct license, admins can disable workspace creation. In that configuration:
      • Users can still create and use Loop components in Teams and Outlook.
      • The Loop app opens, but no workspaces appear (including “My workspace”).
      • Selecting Create in the Loop app shows no options, and no new workspaces can be created.
If the experience matches this (Loop opens but shows no workspaces or creation options), the tenant’s Loop workspace creation setting is likely disabled. An admin must:
      • Review the Loop workspace configuration and re‑enable workspace creation if appropriate.
      • Note that disabling workspace creation does not remove existing content; it only blocks creating new workspaces.
    3. Verify storage and service prerequisites (OneDrive/SharePoint/Exchange)
Loop workspaces and pages rely on underlying Microsoft 365 services:
      • OneDrive/SharePoint storage
        • Shared Loop workspaces and pages in shared workspaces do not require an active OneDrive site.
        • The personal workspace (for example, “My workspace”) does require an active OneDrive site or OneDrive creation policy.
        • Apps that store pages/components in OneDrive or SharePoint need both a OneDrive site and an active OneDrive or SharePoint license (service plan).
        • If the account has no OneDrive/SharePoint storage (for example, mailbox‑only accounts), Loop features can be limited.
      • Exchange Online mailbox and SharePoint root access (for known Loop save issues)
If errors like “We couldn’t save the Loop workspace and pages you’ve created” appear, check:
        • The user has an Exchange Online mailbox (not a shared mailbox) and has signed into it at least once.
        • The user has at least read access to the organization’s SharePoint Online root site.
      Admin actions to validate:
      • Confirm the user has an active OneDrive site and OneDrive/SharePoint service plans.
      • Confirm the user has an Exchange Online mailbox and has opened it once.
      • Confirm at least read access to the SharePoint Online root site.
    4. Differentiate between app not loading vs. no workspaces available
      • If the Loop app itself fails to load at all (blank/constant error) across browsers and devices, after clearing cache and trying InPrivate/incognito, this is likely a service or account issue that requires a support ticket.
      • If the app loads but shows no workspaces or creation options, that strongly indicates either:
        • Workspace creation is disabled by policy, or
        • The license set does not include the workspace capabilities described above.
    5. Next steps for the admin/helpdesk
      For the affected user:
      1. In Microsoft 365 admin center, confirm the assigned license is one of the supported Microsoft 365 plans and not only Office 365. If using E3/E5 and originally adopted early, ensure the Extra Features license is enabled.
      2. Review Loop admin settings to ensure Loop workspace creation is enabled for the user’s group/tenant.
      3. Confirm the user has:
        • Active OneDrive/SharePoint service plans and a provisioned OneDrive site (for personal workspace).
        • An Exchange Online mailbox (not shared) and has signed into it at least once.
        • Read access to the SharePoint Online root site.
      4. If all of the above are correct and Loop still will not load workspaces on any device or browser, open a support ticket with Microsoft 365 support, referencing that licensing, Loop workspace settings, and storage prerequisites have already been validated.
