Stock Data Type in Excel has stopped working since morning 28-Apr-26.

Therefore Excel is unable to refresh the stock price information. I am getting the message "COULDN'T REFRESH DATA TYPES". Sorry our server is temporarily having problems. We're working to fix it.

Does any body have any idea, whats the issue or how long it it will take ?

Thanks.

Hi @Abhijeet

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Regarding the issue with the Stock data type in Excel no longer working, based on my research, several other users have reported experiencing the same behavior. I’ve also tested this on my end and can confirm that I’m seeing the issue as well.

At this time, there has been no official announcement, service advisory, or confirmed fix published by Microsoft. As community moderators, I don’t have access to internal service logs, backend diagnostics, or engineering dashboards due to privacy and security restrictions. Issues that may involve backend or service-related problems can only be fully investigated and resolved by Microsoft’s product engineering teams.

The only channel that connects directly to those engineering and service teams is the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. For this reason, I strongly recommend contacting your Microsoft 365 administrator and asking them to report the issue through the Admin Center, as this helps Microsoft track, prioritize, and investigate service-related problems more effectively.

Steps for the Microsoft 365 Admin:

  1. Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center
  2. Navigate to Health
  3. Select Service health
  4. Click Report an issue  User's image

Submitting the issue through this process allows Microsoft to investigate further and, if needed, open a service incident for broader visibility.

As an additional option, you can also submit feedback directly to the Microsoft product team from within the Excel application. This ensures that your experience is shared with the team for consideration in future updates. User's image

Thank you again for your time and understanding. While this response may not provide an immediate resolution, it outlines the most effective path to get the issue addressed by the appropriate team.

I appreciate your patience, and I’m here to help. Please let me know if you have any updates or additional information to share.

I think this msg only shows when the ms stocks‑resolver tier stalls upstream, not anything u did… just set those cells to manual refresh (Data→Refresh→Manual), and if it still flickers, close→open once and leave it — beyond that it’s on their side.

The message "COULDN'T REFRESH DATA TYPES" with "Sorry our server is temporarily having problems. We're working to fix it." indicates a problem on the data provider/server side for Excel linked data types, not an issue with the local Excel installation.

For this specific error, the documented guidance is:

    • This can be caused by data provider issues.
    • Try again later.

In the meantime, if the repeated error pop‑ups are disruptive and automatic refresh is enabled for data types, the refresh mode can be set to manual so the message does not keep appearing. This avoids interruptions but means stock data will not update until a manual refresh is performed.

There is no documented way to see or control how long the outage will last; resolution depends on the service provider restoring normal operation.
