2026-05-12T09:07:37.3166667+00:00 Hi Sarah Bradford,
I can see how frustrating this is, especially when the webcam and microphone both seem to be working, but the recorded video still has no sound. Let’s take a closer look together.
To help narrow this down, could you please let me know:
- Which app are you using to record the video?
- Does the microphone work as expected in other apps (for example, during a voice recording or a call)?
While checking that, please try the steps below:
- Confirm the microphone selected in Windows
- Go to Settings > System > Sound
- Under Input, make sure the correct microphone is selected
- Use Test your microphone and confirm that the input level moves when you speak
- Check microphone settings inside the recording app
- If the recording app has its own audio settings, open the app’s Settings or Audio section
- Explicitly select the same microphone you see in Windows, instead of leaving it as “Default”
- Review microphone permissions per app
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone
- Make sure Microphone access and Let apps access your microphone are On; The specific recording app is allowed
- Check Recording devices in Sound Control Panel
- Press Win + R, type mmsys.cpl, and press Enter
- Open the Recording tab
- Ensure the intended microphone is enabled and not being overridden by another device
- Test with the Windows Camera app
- Please try recording a short video using the built‑in Camera app and check whether audio is captured there.
While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.
