    Hello Anne,

Thanks for posting on Microsoft Community.

    1. First, I need you to open (https://account.microsoft.com/services) and confirm if Microsoft 365 Personal shows as Active.
    2. Make sure you’re using the correct account in Office apps
(On your PC: Open Word or Excel --> go to File --> Account --> look for "User Info")
Sign in with the correct account (That has the license) -- feel free to sign out and sign in again.
    3. Fully restart activation inside Office (File --> account --> Activate Product /Sign in to activate)

If there is an error message please share it with me after following the above steps.

and let me know how I can assist you.

    Best,

    M.

Follow these steps to resolve common activation issues for a new Microsoft 365 Personal subscription on Windows:

    1. Confirm the subscription and account
    • Go to the Subscriptions page at account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the email used to buy Microsoft 365 Personal.
    • Verify that an active Microsoft 365 (not Microsoft 365 Basic) subscription is listed. If only Microsoft 365 Basic appears, that subscription does not include desktop apps and Office will not activate.
    1. Sign in to Office with the correct account
    2. Open an Office app such as Word.
    3. Go to File > Account.
    4. Under User Information, select Sign out for any existing account.
    5. Select Sign in and enter the same Microsoft account that shows the active Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
    6. After sign-in, select Update Options > Update Now (if available) to ensure Office is up to date, then check activation status on the same Account page.
    7. Fix “products we found can’t be used to activate” or “account isn’t associated” errors If Office shows messages such as “The products we found in your account can't be used to activate” or “The account isn't associated with this Office product”:
    8. Sign out and sign back in
      • Open Word.
      • Select the name/profile icon at the top.
      • Select Sign out.
      • Select Sign in and use the Microsoft account that owns the Personal subscription.
    9. Remove cached Office credentials
      • From Start, type credential manager and open Credential Manager.
      • Select Windows Credentials.
      • Remove any entries for MicrosoftOffice16.
      • Close Credential Manager.
      • Restart the device and try activating again.
    10. Reset activation state (if needed)
      • Follow the steps in “Reset activation state for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise” to clear old activation data, then sign in again with the correct account.
    11. Use the activation/sign-in troubleshooters If activation still fails:
    12. Run the Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter
      • Use the Microsoft 365 activation troubleshooter in Get Help (aka.ms/SaRA-OfficeActivation-sarahome).
      • Run it on the same Windows 10 or later PC where Office is installed and follow the prompts.
    13. Run the Microsoft 365 sign-in troubleshooter
      • Use the Microsoft 365 sign-in troubleshooter (aka.ms/SaRA-OfficeSignIn-sarahome) to fix sign-in issues that block activation.
    14. Check for multiple Office installs or wrong edition
    • Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and ensure only one Office/Microsoft 365 installation is present.
    • If multiple copies exist, uninstall the extras.
    • If the installed edition does not match the subscription, run the Microsoft 365 Uninstall troubleshooter (aka.ms/SaRA-OfficeUninstall-sarahome), restart, then reinstall Microsoft 365 from the account that owns the Personal subscription.
    1. Network and TLS checks (if “can’t connect” errors appear) If messages such as “We are unable to connect right now” or “Sorry, we can't connect to your account” appear:
    2. Ensure the device is online and not blocked by a proxy or firewall from reaching Office activation URLs such as https://activation.sls.microsoft.com and https://officecdn.microsoft.com.
    3. On older Windows versions, ensure TLS 1.2 is enabled in Internet Options > Advanced.

If these steps are followed with the correct Microsoft 365 Personal account and a supported Windows version, Office should activate successfully.
