I have had issues in the past when switching to a new version of Outlook in Office for Mac. How do I make sure that all emails and contacts currently in Office Home and Business 2019 for Mac will transfer to Office Home and Business 2024 for Mac?

Hi R Daniel Van Eycke,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand your concern, especially since switching Outlook versions on Mac has caused issues for you before.

Before moving from Office Home and Business 2019 for Mac to Office Home and Business 2024 for Mac, I recommend creating a backup of your Outlook data first. In Outlook 2019 for Mac, please make sure you are using Legacy Outlook, because exporting Outlook data to an Outlook for Mac archive file (.olm) is only available in Legacy Outlook.

If you do not see the Export option under Tools, please also check the File menu. If the Export option still does not appear, update Outlook first and then check again.

When exporting, select the items you want to keep, such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes, then save the .olm file in a safe location, such as an external drive or cloud storage.

After installing Outlook 2024 for Mac, add the same email account and allow it to fully sync. If any local data is missing, especially items stored under “On My Computer,” you can import the saved .olm file back into Outlook for Mac.

Before uninstalling Outlook 2019 or deleting any local Outlook data, please confirm that your older emails, folders, contacts, and calendar items are showing correctly in Outlook 2024.
