Percent of Storage on Email Account Not Showing

Starting about a week ago, when I click on "Storage" for my free email account, when I am logged into my email account it says I have "0" GB of storage with this account. But when I go to my Microsoft account it shows I have 20GB of free storage and the percentage I have used. Am I correct in guessing there is a "bug" that is causing this and is being worked on to fix?

Hi barry mogerman

Please confirm:

  • Can you still send and receive emails normally?
  • Does Outlook.com show 0 GB only under Email storage, or does Microsoft account storage also show an error?
  • Are you using a free Outlook.com account, Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, or Family?

Meanwhile, try these checks:

1) Confirm whether mail is still working

Send a test email to yourself, then send another test email from a different account to this Outlook.com address.

  • If you can still send and receive normally, the 0 GB value is most likely a display or reporting problem on the Outlook.com storage page.
  • If you cannot send or receive, continue with the storage checks below.

2) Check the Outlook.com storage page directly

Go to Outlook.com in a browser, then open: Settings > General > Storage. If the storage page shows 0 GB or 0/0 GB, try the same page in an InPrivate / Incognito window or another browser.

3) Compare email storage with Microsoft cloud storage

The storage shown under your Microsoft account may be Microsoft cloud storage, which can include OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments. It is not always the same as the Outlook.com mailbox storage total.

See: Storage limits in Outlook.com | Microsoft Support

4) Check Microsoft’s official recent Outlook.com issues page

Check the Microsoft page here: Fixes or workarounds for recent issues on Outlook.com | Microsoft Support

5) If sending or receiving is affected, free a small amount of space and sign back in

Free storage if the account is over quota. Start by deleting a few large emails with attachments, then empty Deleted Items if you are sure you no longer need those messages.

After that:

  • Sign out of Outlook.com.
  • Close the browser.
  • Sign back in.
  • Check whether sending, receiving, and the storage page update.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
