I purchased Microsoft Office Home 2024-USA for my MacBook Neo in April, 2026. . Everything except Excel is working. I reinstalled and still cannot get Excel to open. Instead I get a message saying that I need to purchase it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really need to use excel. . Thanks!

Dear Charlene Lauria,

From what you described, I understand that you purchased Office Home 2024 for your Mac in April 2026, but although the other Office apps are working, Excel still asks you to purchase it even after reinstalling.

This behavior might be caused by Excel being installed from the Mac App Store, the wrong Microsoft account being signed in, or old licensing information remaining on the Mac.

Please try the steps below:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft Services & subscriptions and confirm that Office Home 2024 appears under the account used for the purchase.
  2. Open Excel and sign out of any account shown there. Quit all Office apps, reopen Excel, and sign in with the same account that owns Office 2024.
  3. If Excel came from the Mac App Store, move it to Trash. Mac App Store Office apps require a Microsoft 365 subscription and do not accept one-time purchase licenses. Reinstall Office using the Install option beside Office Home 2024 on the Services & subscriptions page.
  4. If the purchase prompt remains, run the Office License Removal Tool for Mac, restart the Mac, then open Excel and sign in again.

Note: The license removal tool only clears saved activation/licensing data on your Mac, it does not delete your purchase or invalidate your license. However, please make sure you still have access to the correct Microsoft account associated with your original Office purchase, as you will need to sign in again to reactivate it after running the tool.

Please let me know how it goes after trying these steps, and I'll be glad to continue looking into it with you.
