Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Dear @brooklynn thornton
I understand how frustrating it is to get locked out of your school account when you need to access Blackboard.
Because your account belongs to an educational institution (KCTCS), Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is strictly managed by your school’s IT department for security. As Microsoft Independent Advisors, I do not have administrative access to user accounts or backend systems to bypass MFA or change account security settings on your behalf.
Here is how you can resolve this issue step-by-step:
Step 1: Find code in Authentication app:
- Open your authenticator app.
- Locate the entry associated with your educational email.
- Select the one-time passcode and enter it into the required field.
Step 2: Try Alternative Verification Methods
- On the sign-in screen shown in your screenshots, tap "Sign in another way" or "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now."
- If your school allowed additional setup methods, check if you can choose Text message (SMS), Phone call, or Email to receive your verification code.
Step 3: Contact Your School’s IT Help Desk (Required if locked out)
If you do not have secondary verification methods set up, you cannot bypass the Authenticator prompt on your own. You must reach out to your school's IT Help Desk or Microsoft 365 Administrator.
- Explain that you lost access to your Microsoft Authenticator device and ask them to "Require re-register multifactor authentication" for your account.
- One the administrator resets your MFA settings in the Microsoft Entra admin center, your existing Authenticator link will be cleared. The next time you log into Blackboard, you will be prompted to set up the Authenticator app again from scratch.
For official details on how administrators reset user verification methods, you can refer to the Microsoft Entra authentication methods documentation.
