My certification expired. What happens now? If your certification expires, you must earn the certification again by passing the required exam(s).

If the AZ-104 certification is already expired, it cannot be renewed. It must be earned again by passing the required exam(s) again.

    Key points:

    • Microsoft role-based certifications such as AZ-104 are valid for one year.
    • Renewal must be completed before the expiration date through the free renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn.
    • Passing a beta exam or retaking an exam before expiry is not an alternative renewal path.
    • After expiration, renewal is no longer available.

So for a certification that expired in 2024, the path is to take the AZ-104 exam again to regain the certification.
