I am unable to install the latest version of ms visual c++ 2015-2022 v14.51.36247 because it says the .msi file is missing from the package cache folder for my current version v14.44.35211) when using cCleaner v7 to update the x86 andf x64 files.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Jim Paige ,

Thank you for confirming that the update from version 14.44.35211 to 14.51.36247 is being blocked because Windows Installer cannot locate the MSI package associated with the currently installed version.

This usually means that the existing Visual C++ Redistributable package cannot be serviced or removed normally. Please follow the steps below to remove the affected installer entry and then reinstall the current packages.

  1. Stop the update through CCleaner for now.
  2. Download the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter from Microsoft (If the download is blocked by your browser, you may need to select Keep or Keep anyway to save the file. Some systems also display a Windows SmartScreen warning before launching the troubleshooter. If this occurs, select More info followed by Run anyway to start the tool.)
  3. Run the troubleshooter and select Uninstalling.
  4. Select the affected version 14.44.35211 entry. Depending on how the package is displayed, the entry may appear as: Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X64 Minimum Runtime – 14.44.35211 Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Minimum Runtime – 14.44.35211 Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X64 Additional Runtime– 14.44.35211 Microsoft Visual C++ 2022 X86 Additional Runtime– 14.44.35211
  5. Allow the troubleshooter to detect and remove the affected installer entry.
  6. Restart Windows.
  7. Download and install the latest supported packages directly from Microsoft
  8. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and confirm that both packages are listed successfully. Then retry the application that requires the Visual C++ runtime.

If the issue continues, please also provide the relevant %TEMP%\dd_vcredist_x86_* or %TEMP%\dd_vcredist_x64_* installation log. Microsoft identifies those files as the relevant VC++ Redistributable installation logs.

If you found my response helpful or informative, I would greatly appreciate it if you could follow this guide for your confirmation. Thank you.

Can you try the VC++ AIO installer and see if that helps you solve the issue?

The missing MSI for version 14.44.35211 should be resolved by removing that broken version with its original Microsoft installer or the Microsoft uninstall troubleshooter, then installing the latest x86 and x64 packages directly from Microsoft rather than through CCleaner.

    1. Remove the broken 14.44.35211 packages

A missing vc_runtimeMinimum_*.msi while upgrading matches Microsoft’s “older version can’t be removed” case: the Windows Installer cache for the existing Redistributable is incomplete. Microsoft documents two supported removal methods.^1^

Method A — use the old installer

    1. Open Welcome to Dev Essentials and sign in.
    2. Search for Visual C++ Redistributable and obtain version 14.44.35211 for both x86 and x64.
    3. Only use installers downloaded from a Microsoft site and signed by Microsoft.
    4. Right-click each installer and select Run as administrator.
    5. Select Uninstall. Remove both applicable entries:
      • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x86) – 14.44.35211
      • Microsoft Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributable (x64) – 14.44.35211
    6. Restart Windows.

Version 14.44 belongs to the documented 14.30–14.44 installer range.^1^

Method B — if the old installer is unavailable or also requests the missing MSI

    1. Download Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter: MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab
    2. Run it and select Uninstalling.
    3. Select the broken Visual C++ 2015–2022 x64 entry and allow it to remove the installation information.
    4. Run it again for the x86 entry if that package has the same problem.
    5. Restart Windows.

This procedure is also used for Visual C++ installations whose cached MSI can no longer be found.^2^

    2. Install the current Microsoft packages

Download the packages directly from Microsoft:

Right-click each file, select Run as administrator, install x86 first and then x64, and restart Windows. Installing both is normal on 64-bit Windows because 32-bit applications require the x86 runtime while 64-bit applications require x64. Microsoft recommends the latest v14 Redistributable for applications built with supported MSVC v14 toolsets.^3^

Avoid third-party “all-in-one” runtime packages and do not manually delete installer registry keys unless directed by Microsoft Support. Microsoft specifically warns against installing Redistributables that were not downloaded from Microsoft or signed by Microsoft.^1^

    If removal still fails

Collect the installer logs using Microsoft’s Visual Studio and .NET Log Collection Tool:

    1. Download VSCollect.
    2. Run Collect.exe.
    3. Open %TEMP%\vscollect.zip.
    4. Under its Temp folder, locate files beginning with:
      • dd_vcredist_x86_
      • dd_vcredist_x64_
    5. Search them for 1714, 1612, Error, or Failed.

Those logs identify the exact product and package still blocking removal and can be supplied to Microsoft Support.^1^
