Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hi @Jeff Linder
Thanks for reaching out. We understand how frustrating it is when your Outlook view changes unexpectedly, especially when the date and time information disappears from your emails.
The good news is that in most cases, this is caused by recent changes in the Outlook interface or view settings and can typically be resolved with just a few steps.
If you are using Outlook on Mac, especially if you recently updated to the New Outlook interface, you might notice the Date/Time column (under "Sent" or "Read") missing or simplified. Here is how to restore it:
Switch to Legacy Outlook: Look for the option to switch back to Legacy Outlook (also called Classic Outlook) in the top corner of the window. Outlook will restart, and the Date/Time column should reappear.
If you're already in the classic view (or after switching):
- Go to View > Arrange By > Date Received. This often helps re-establish the date column.
- Consider turning off Conversation View, as it may group emails and simplify or hide individual date/time fields. You can usually find this option under the View menu as well.
These steps typically resolve the issue for Mac users.
While your issue is on Mac, we've also included steps for Outlook on Windows below, just in case it's helpful for future reference or if you use Outlook across multiple devices:
Add the Date/Time Column Back
Your Outlook view likely just needs to have the "Received" column re-added or reordered.
- Go to the View tab in Outlook.
- Click View Settings > Columns
- From the list of Available columns, select Received (or Sent/Read depending on the folder), then click Add.
- You can use the Move Up or Move Down to place it where you'd like and click OK to save your changes in both open windows.
Adjust the Date/Time Format (If needed)
If the column appears but the format isn't quite right (e.g., only showing the date, not the time), you can adjust its display:
- Still under View Settings, click Format Columns.
- Select the relevant column (e.g., Received), then choose a format that displays both date and time.
- Click OK on both windows to apply the changes.
Reset the View Settings
If things still look off after trying the steps above, you can restore Outlook's default layout for that specific folder. This is a powerful way to reset everything if a setting is truly stubborn.
Repair Office or Recreate Outlook Profile (optional)
If none of the above step's work, you might try running a Quick Repair on Microsoft Office or creating a new Outlook profile.
We really hope this helps you get your Outlook exactly how you like it again. If you're still having issues after trying these steps, please feel free to reply to this email, we'll be happy to take a closer look or provide further guidance.
