Hi Everyone,

I setup our Windows Server 2019 to be a VPN server per the link below.

https://www.snel.com/support/how-to-set-up-an-l2tp-ipsec-vpn-on-windows-server-2019/

Windows Server 2019 VPN Setup
Followed steps to install VPN via Server Manager.
Installed VPN and NAT features.

Routing And Access Dialog
Configured as L2TP with Preshared Key
Set a Static Address Pool of 11.

Windows 10 VPN Client
Followed the steps from the link below:

https://www.snel.com/support/learn-how-to-connect-l2tp-ipsec-vpn-on-windows-10/

Configured the router for the Server end and Client end to have the ports needed:

L2TP: UDP 1701, UDP 500, GRE 47.
IPSEC: UDP 4500
PPTP: TCP 1723

Client Router's External Host has the Server's Public IP address entered.

When using L2TP VPN, no connection is made.

When using Auto VPN or PPTP, the VPN Client gets into the "Signing in" status really quick when I try to connect the VPN from the Network & Internet > VPN window.

In our Windows Server 2019, I can see this connection, but after a minute, it says can't connect to VPN. A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used was closed.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Sonny

    Hello there,

Have you made any recent Windows update on the server ? Check if you have find anything in the Log.

-Right-click the Dialup Networking folder, and then click Properties.
-Click the Networking tab, and then click to select the Record a log file for this connection check box.
The PPP log file is C:\Windows\Ppplog.txt. It's located in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft IPSec VPN folder.

You must have an Internet connection before you can make an L2TP/IPSec VPN connection. If you try to make a VPN connection before you have an Internet connection, you may experience a long delay, typically 60 seconds, and then you may receive an error message that says there was no response or something is wrong with the modem or other communication device.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions please let me know and I will be glad to help you out.

    Sorry.

I found and installed an app called SoftEther VPN and set our server to be the host. Then on the client Windows or Mac, I was able to VPN in and access shared drives.

This way was quicker and took about 45 minutes to setup.

I'm sure the Windows built-in way works; however, after spending a few days going crazy, I went with this route.

Thank you very much for your time though. It's greatly appreciated.

    Sonny
