Deploying Applications to Autopilot devices only

How does everyone handle application deployment to new Autopilot devices only. I can create a Dynamic Group for Autopilot Devices using the ZTDiD query and deploy applications to it. But if i ever need to update that application then i assume it will blast it out to every autopilot device ever deployed (not just new ones), all at once. potentially deploying to thousands of devices all at the same time.

If there is a way to target new auto pilot devices only with an initial dynamic group that machines fall out of later. then that would be nice!.
