Configure alerts for critical operation on recovery vault to different action group

Azure monitor automatically sends alerts for critical operation to azure subscription owner or admin.
How to send these notifications to non-admins and non-owners, like for example contributor

Hi,
I am aware that we need to create extra action group to add extra email id, but the point is i am not able to edit the inbuilt alerts on critical operation to associate these new action group to it

Hi @MS Techie ,

You have to create additional action groups with that email address and configure those alerts to send notifications to that (additional) action groups.

I know we have to create action groups for email id, but how do we associate these action groups with the inbuilt alerts for critical operation.

I am not able to edit the inbuilt alert rules for critical operation, else i would have added extra email id via action groups to it

Atleast i don't see any way to alert for critical operation even from audit logs, since it does not tell us exactly what was done, but closer approximate to it.

Azure Monitor doesn’t send any alerts without configuring the service to send the notifications.

Action Group is a service that sends alert notifications, this is where you configure the recipients (static list of receivers or dynamic based on their roles https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-monitor/alerts/action-groups#email-azure-resource-manager-role)

No , there are certain cases when alerts are sent from azure, even without configurng it explicity , like for example critical operations on Azure Recovery services vault. alerts go to subscription Owner/Admin.

Now my question is how do we edit the action groups for these alerts so that we can add more email id to it ? Please ask seniors from Microsoft , they might know the answer.

You touched very sensitive topic, where I'll share my thoughts, and this is my opinion that could be not the same as Azure Backup Product Team.

First of all, this is great thing that Azure Monitor product teams have a common strategy on alerting capabilities, but some products still have "legacy" "classical" alerting capabilities that are configured in a non standartized way.

To be honest with you, I really DON’T like what Azure Backup team did previously from the alerting perspective. Previously, they’ve created a set of alerts (now they are named as "classic") that are basically not convenient with a standardized strategy at all.

Thankfully, there is an option to optout from the Backup classical notifications. This is a doc describing the optout process https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/backup/move-to-azure-monitor-alerts
