Hi. The files are available if you do the cutover steps yourself... like giving the new server the name and IP of the old server. You also need to be sure the server object in ADUC belongs to the same groups as the old server.
Storage Migration Service - Can I skip Cutover phase
I will be using Storage Migration Service for transferring files, folders, shares, and permissions to a new server. Can I skip the Cutover phase and do those final steps myself? I don't want the new server to take on the old server name because the name on the old server was changed to something temporary to prevent users connecting to it during the long transfer.

Thank you for posting your query.
Kindly check the details provided below to answer your question.
Based on my understanding, if you don’t cut over to the new servers, the files you transferred would not be available. Thus, we don’t suggest that you skip step 3.

2022-11-14T16:02:51.34+00:00 I did this transfer this past weekend. I skipped the cutover phase as I wanted to decommission the old server manually and I didn't want the new server to be renamed with the name of the old server. The migration was a success. There was only 1 file that wasn't copied and that was a file in the admin account. I was logged on to the source and destination with the same admin account that I specified in Storage Migration Service to log on onto both servers. If I do this again, I will not log onto the servers while doing the migration. There were some folders on the new server that I didn't have immediate access to until I clicked on "Next" which then gave me access.
