Portable Media Centers
I've been holding out buying an iPod because most of my music is in WMA and I really don't want to rip all my CDs again. I also have a Windows Media Center and the integration with the portable media centers seems really interesting. I will be able to record TV (a la Tivo), but also multiple shows at the same time! (I think Tivo might do this too now). Then I will be able to sync the portable media center to the windows media center and have the shows sync to the device. I'll be able to watch Futurama anywhere now! Too bad they aren't making any new episodes.
Two devices are listed on amazon.com (https://www.amazon.com/portablemediacenters). Out of the two, the Samsung one looks nicer to me (pictured on the right side). But what I'm holding out for is this: https://www.iriveramerica.com/products/pmp-120.aspx Which doesn't say it's going to run media center, but while googling, I found people saying a PMP-100 model will support media center.

Skins
Finally, how does the new skin on this blog look? I like it much more than the old ones. The CSS is interesting too. It looks like it uses DirectX to draw the gradient (which, I'm told, doesn't show up in Firefox... I'm not surprised).

    It's actually not a new skin. It's just the simple skin with some CSS changes.

    Oh, BTW, I'm not going to take credit for something I didn't do... The CSS was created by some guys in the MSDN design team and was available for me to use.

    Now I know all new concepts are rough on the edges; rev 1 and all that. But the screen size and recording experience may have to be better to rev 1 this ... those are the "basics" for this device.

    I wish I could find details too.... the hardware is created by non-Microsoft so there's little I could find that you couldn't find with a search engine.

    I don't think the 3" screen is an issue for me. Anything too large would make it hard to carry around. Most of them should have out jacks so you can plug it into any TV. I don't work in the media center group so I can only guess how the size was chosen, but I know Microsoft groups usually do their research with customers and pick a good mid-point.
    If you want a larger screen, a laptop would probably be the way to go. You could even install the full Windows Media Center on it (like Toshiba does with some laptops).

    FYI: iTunes 4.6 converts WMAs to AACs. HTH. You still might want to wait for the PMCs, though. They look really cool. However, if size is an issue, you may want to think about it some more.
