Microsoft Developers Capture Third Place at Tech Crunch Disrupt Hackathon

By the time TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon 2013 was over this weekend, five Microsoft developer evangelists had finished third in a field of 260+ hacks and earned a chance to pitch their hack at the main stage on Wednesday at the world's most significant hackathon for consumer tech.

Watch the video of the Microsoft team's hack here.

It took a team of five Microsoft developers about 24 hours to build AdFree, AdFree allows people to use MapReduce, a programming model for processing large data sets with a parallel, distributed algorithm on a cluster. as an alternative to advertising to make revenue from their websites. It enables site owners to help visitors to power advanced problem-solving processing by leasing out CPU cycles from browsers instead of running annoying ads.

It's probably easier to explain in the video on the TechCrunch site. It's the last video on that post.

The team was composed entirely of Microsoft's technical and developer evangelists from Microsoft's corps of professionals. They included Felix Reiseberg, Helen Zeng, Will Tschumy, Timothy Strimple, Bruno Terkaly, John Alioto, and Steve Seow.

They are headed to the main stage on Wednesday.
