Announcing SQL Server Management Studio - July 2015 Release

Today, we announce the latest preview of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). It is the second release in our fast-train preview program. This release includes all updates included in the June release and features Database diagramming support for Azure SQL databases, IntelliSense support for new temporal table syntax, and more.

New in this release

1. Database diagramming support to quickly create and modify tables, columns, relationships, and keys in Azure SQL databases.

2. Updated DacFx library to support latest Azure SQL database features including row-level security and Azure Active directory authentication.

3. IntelliSense support for new temporal table syntax enables faster, more accurate coding in SSMS when using temporal tables.

4. Bug fix in "Check for Updates" UI to not prompt user to install components when a newer version is already installed.

    Curious, with this new direction of SSMS product cycle management, does that mean SSMS will not be tied directly to specific versions of SQL.  meaning, will SSMS eventually drop the associated "year"?  Will it be more SSMS and not SSMS 2012, 2014, 2016, etc.

    wont install on 8.1 too many installer errors, missing registry entries. Tells you to download and apply KB2919355, which is already installed. Good luck getting this to work guys.

    Any word on when SSDT-BI (for SSRS, SSAS, SSIS) will be released for preview?

    Tried it on two systems, both 8.1. They had SSMS 2014 June release on them and it worked fine. On both, the installation of July release deleted the icon on the taskbar, and no SSMS is to be found. Another co-worker tried it on his machine, an 8.1 laptop, and got too many installation errors.
