InheritableThreadLocal Class

Definition

This class extends ThreadLocal to provide inheritance of values from parent thread to child thread: when a child thread is created, the child receives initial values for all inheritable thread-local variables for which the parent has values.

Remarks

This class extends ThreadLocal to provide inheritance of values from parent thread to child thread: when a child thread is created, the child receives initial values for all inheritable thread-local variables for which the parent has values. Normally the child's values will be identical to the parent's; however, the child's value can be made an arbitrary function of the parent's by overriding the childValue method in this class.

Inheritable thread-local variables are used in preference to ordinary thread-local variables when the per-thread-attribute being maintained in the variable (e.g., User ID, Transaction ID) must be automatically transmitted to any child threads that are created.

Note: During the creation of a new Thread#Thread(ThreadGroup,Runnable,String,long,boolean) thread, it is possible to opt out of receiving initial values for inheritable thread-local variables.

Methods

ChildValue(Object)

Computes the child's initial value for this inheritable thread-local variable as a function of the parent's value at the time the child thread is created.

Clone()

Creates and returns a copy of this object.

(Inherited from Object)
Dispose() (Inherited from Object)
Dispose(Boolean) (Inherited from Object)
Equals(Object)

Indicates whether some other object is "equal to" this one.

(Inherited from Object)
Get()

Returns the value in the current thread's copy of this thread-local variable.

(Inherited from ThreadLocal)
GetHashCode()

Returns a hash code value for the object.

(Inherited from Object)
InitialValue()

Returns the current thread's "initial value" for this thread-local variable.

(Inherited from ThreadLocal)
JavaFinalize()

Called by the garbage collector on an object when garbage collection determines that there are no more references to the object.

(Inherited from Object)
Notify()

Wakes up a single thread that is waiting on this object's monitor.

(Inherited from Object)
NotifyAll()

Wakes up all threads that are waiting on this object's monitor.

(Inherited from Object)
Remove()

Removes the current thread's value for this thread-local variable.

(Inherited from ThreadLocal)
Set(Object)

Sets the current thread's copy of this thread-local variable to the specified value.

(Inherited from ThreadLocal)
SetHandle(IntPtr, JniHandleOwnership)

Sets the Handle property.

(Inherited from Object)
ToArray<T>() (Inherited from Object)
ToString()

Returns a string representation of the object.

(Inherited from Object)
UnregisterFromRuntime() (Inherited from Object)
Wait()

Causes the current thread to wait until it is awakened, typically by being <em>notified</em> or <em>interrupted</em>.

(Inherited from Object)
Wait(Int64, Int32)

Causes the current thread to wait until it is awakened, typically by being <em>notified</em> or <em>interrupted</em>, or until a certain amount of real time has elapsed.

(Inherited from Object)
