Informace uložené v tomto klíči zahrnují nastavení proměnných prostředí a data o skupinách programů, barvách, tiskárnách, síťových připojeních a předvolbách aplikací. Tento klíč usnadňuje nastavení aktuálního uživatele. V tomto klíči dodavatelé softwaru ukládají aktuální předvolby specifické pro uživatele, které se mají použít ve svých aplikacích. Microsoft například vytvoří klíč HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft pro své aplikace, které můžou používat, přičemž každá aplikace vytvoří pod klíčem Microsoft vlastní podklíč.
