How to: Use Partial Shipments
In a partial shipment, an order is shipped in more than one shipment. For example, from an order for 100 units, you ship 40 units immediately and 60 units later. There are no limits on the number of shipments that can be made for an order.
Note
This procedure applies to companies with no formalized warehouse handling. If warehouse handling is required at the location, then the sales order is automatically posted when the related inventory pick or warehouse shipment is posted. For more information, see Inventory Pick and Warehouse Shipment.
To use partial shipments
In the Search box, enter Sales Orders, and then choose the related link.
Open a sales order that you want to ship in more than one shipment.
In the Posting Date field, enter the posting date.
The following fields on the sales order lines are especially important for partial shipments: Quantity, Qty. to Ship and Quantity Shipped.
In the Qty. to Ship field, enter the quantity that you want to ship.
This can be a lower quantity than the value in the Quantity field, indicating that you are about to post a part of the total quantity.
Post the shipment.
Notice that the Quantity Shipped field now shows the part quantity that has been shipped.
When you are ready to post another part of the total quantity, repeat step 4.
