MimeFormatted Property

Topic Last Modified: 2006-12-01

Indicates whether or not this message is to be formatted using the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) formatting scheme.

Applies To

IMessage Interface

Type Library

Microsoft CDO for Exchange 2000 Library

DLL Implemented In

CDOEX.DLL

Syntax

Property MimeFormatted As Boolean

HRESULT get_MimeFormatted(VARIANT_BOOL* pVal);HRESULT put_MimeFormatted(VARIANT_BOOL Val);

Parameters

  • pVal
Returns the value of the MimeFormatted property as a reference to a VARIANT_BOOL.
  • Val
Sets the value of the MimeFormatted property to the value of the VARIANT_BOOL.

Remarks

If MimeFormatted is set to True, Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) automatically sets the message's IBodyPart.ContentMediaType property to "multipart/alternative". However, subsequent actions can change this setting. Adding a body part, for example, changes ContentMediaType to "multipart/mixed", and adding an associated URL changes it to "multipart/related".

If MimeFormatted is False and you set the HTMLBody property, CDO sets MimeFormatted to True. If you set MimeFormatted to False, the HTMLBody property is removed from the message and the HTML text is lost.

If you prepare a message with MimeFormatted set to True and later change it to False, all the body parts are made into attachments and marked for encoding with the Unix-to-Unix encode (UUENCODE) mechanism. Encoding only takes place when you call the Send or Post method.

The default value of MimeFormatted is True.
