Filter List Dialog Box (Model Designer)

The purpose of the Filter List dialog box is to help you create a list from a set of available values that is too large to be navigated easily using a drop-down list. The available values may be the set of distinct values for an attribute, or they may be the instances of an entity defined in your model. Model Designer and Report Builder open the Filter List dialog box when you click the no values selected link next to a filter condition in the Filter Data dialog box.

For attributes, the Filter List dialog box is used if the attribute's ValueSelection property is set to List. In this case, the Available data list displays all distinct values for that attribute. To help find a specific value, you can type a word in the Filter text box, and then click the Filter button.

For entities, the Filter List dialog box is used if the entity's InstanceSelection property is set to List, FilteredList, or MandatoryFilter. If the property is set to List, the Available data list displays all instances of that entity, and the dialog box behaves the same as if it were displaying distinct values for an attribute. If the property is set to FilteredList or MandatoryFilter, no instances are displayed initially when the dialog box opens. Instead, when you click the Find button, you can create a filter that will return a subset of the available values. This subset will be displayed in the Available data list. You can add one or more values from this set to your list, and then repeat the process until you have selected all of the values that you want to include.

When you click OK, the items in the Selected data list are displayed in your original filter.

Options

  • Find
If you are required to perform a pre-filter, the Find button is displayed. Click to filter the number of items that you want to display in the Available data list box. When clicked, a new Filter Data dialog box is displayed. Apply a valid filter and click OK. When the Filter List dialog box is displayed again, the Available data list is populated.

  • Available data
Select which items that you want to add to the drop down list in your filter. This list might be pre-populated. Otherwise, you need to click the Find button to populate it.

  • Add
Click to move the selected items from the Available data list to the Selected data list.

  • Add All
Click to move all the items in the Available data list to the Selected data list.

  • Selected data
Displays all the items that will be added to the filter criterion drop-down list in the Filter Data dialog box.

  • Delete
Select an item and click to remove it from the Selected data list.

  • Filter
To reduce the number of visible items in the Available data list, type a word and click the Filter button. For example, if your list consists of product names and you are only interested in products that have the word "mountain" in their names, type the word "mountain" to display only those items. This option is only available when the Available data list is pre-populated
