Manually connect client computers to the server

This procedure refers to client computers running Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional. For information about client computers running other operating systems, see Configure client computers running earlier versions of Windows.

Client computers that are members of another network or domain must be reconfigured to connect to the computer running Windows Small Business Server 2003.

Computers running Windows 2000 Professional

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group.

This procedure manually configures client computers. It is recommended that you use client Setup to automatically perform the following steps. For more information, see Automatically connect client computers to the server.

Configure network settings

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then click System.

  2. On the Network Identification tab, click Properties.

  3. Under Member of, click Domain, type the name of the Windows Small Business Server domain, and then click OK.

  4. When prompted, provide a user name and password.

  5. Click OK to close the System Properties dialog box, and then restart your computer.

Establish Internet connectivity

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.

  2. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.

  3. If you are using a proxy server:

    • In the Address box, type the name of the proxy server, and in the Port box, type the port for the proxy server for the Windows Small Business Server network. Click OK, and then click OK again.

    • Double-click WSP Client or Firewall Client.

    • In the Use this ISA Server box, type the name of a proxy server for the Windows Small Business Server network.

    If you do not know the name of the new proxy server or if you are not using a proxy server:

    • Clear the Use a proxy server check box, click OK, and then click OK again.

    • Double-click WSP Client or Firewall Client.

    • Clear the Enable WinSock Proxy Client or Enable Firewall Client check box, and then click OK.

  4. Restart the computer.

Computers running Windows XP Professional

To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group.

This procedure describes how to manually configure client computers. It is recommended that you use client Setup to automatically perform the following steps. For more information, see Automatically connect client computers to the server.

Configure network settings

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.

  2. On the Computer Name tab, click Change.

  3. Under Member of, click Domain, type the name of the Windows Small Business Server domain, and then click OK.

  4. When prompted, provide a user name and password.

  5. Click OK to close the System Properties dialog box, and then restart the computer.

    Poznámka

    You can also use the Network Identification Wizard to join a domain. To use the wizard, perform step 1, and then on the Computer Name tab, click Network ID, and follow the instructions on your screen.

Establish Internet connectivity

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet Connections.

  2. Click Set up or change your Internet connection.

  3. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.

  4. If you are using a proxy server:

    • In the Address box, type the name of the proxy server, and in the Port box, type the port for the proxy server for the Windows Small Business Server network. Click OK, and then click OK again.

    • Click WSP Client or Firewall Client.

    • Click Enable Firewall Client and then, in the Use this ISA Server box, type the name of a proxy server for the Windows Small Business Server network.

    If you do not know the name of the new proxy server or if you are not using a proxy server:

    • Clear the Use a proxy server for your LAN (these settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) check box, click OK, and then click OK again.

    • Click WSP Client or Firewall Client.

    • Clear the Enable Firewall Client check box, and then click OK.

  5. Restart the computer.
