Silverlight for Windows Phone

Microsoft Silverlight will reach end of support after October 2021. Learn more.

Silverlight, a cross-platform, cross-browser implementation of the .NET Framework for building media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web on desktop computers, is also available for Windows Phone.

Silverlight includes a runtime that is optimized to display content on memory-constrained devices. Silverlight for Windows Phone is hosted on the client device and does not support applications that are hosted in a browser.

The goal of Microsoft is to make Silverlight fully compatible across all supported devices and operating systems. However, there are a number of differences because of hardware differences and device-specific requirements. Topics in this section describe those differences.
