Work breakdown structure (form)

Click Project management and accounting > Common > Projects > All projects. Select or open a project. On the Action Pane, on the Plan tab, in the Activities group, click Work breakdown structure.
The information in this topic applies only to versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 prior to cumulative update 7 for AX 2012 R2. For information about working with a work breakdown structure in later versions of AX 2012 R2, see Create a work breakdown structure of tasks for a project.

In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack and Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, this form is named Activity breakdown structure.
Use this form to add activities for a project in a hierarchical order. You can add a schedule for an activity and the required experience and education, and then assign workers to the activity based on the schedule and requirements. You can also enter details for the estimated costs and revenue for an activity.

Copy from |
Copy an activity or hierarchy of activities from a template. Note When you copy items from a template, any existing hierarchy of activities for the current project is overwritten by the hierarchy in the template. |
Save as template |
Save the activity or hierarchy of activities of the current project as a template. |
Inquiry |
View actual hour, expense, and item transactions. Also view hour, expense, and item forecasts that are associated with the selected activity. |
Assign automatically |
Search for workers and automatically assign them to the activity by using the attributes and schedule that you specified for the activity. |
Assign manually |
Search for workers and manually assign them to the activity. |
Release |
Remove a worker resource from the activity schedule. |
Fields

Activity number |
The identification number for the selected activity. This number is generated automatically. |
Activity name |
Enter a descriptive name for the activity. |
Project ID |
The identifier of the project that the activity is attached to. |
Project name |
The name of the project that the activity is attached to. |
Hard-booked hours |
The number of worker hours that are committed to the completing the activity. |
Remaining effort in hours |
The number of hours that remain after the scheduled hours are subtracted from the total hours for the activity. |
Start date |
The date on which the project activity began. |
End date |
The actual or expected completion date for the activity. |
Total effort in hours |
The estimated total number of hours that are needed to complete the activity. |
Total duration in days |
The estimated total number of days that are needed to complete the activity. |
Scheduled |
Indicates whether worker hours are scheduled to complete an activity that included scheduling conflicts. |
Microsoft Project Server integrated |
Indicates whether the project is integrated with Microsoft Project Server. Note If a project is integrated with Project Server, modifications to the integrated work breakdown structure are made in Project Server, not in Microsoft Dynamics AX. |
Category |
Select a category for the type of activity that you are creating. |
Responsible |
The worker who is responsible for managing the activity. |
Priority |
Select whether the activity has a low, normal, or high priority. |
Description |
Enter any additional information about the activity. |
Scheduling ignores the calendar of the resource |
Select this check box to assign a worker to the activity even if the worker’s schedule conflicts with the activity schedule. |
Duration in days |
Enter the number of days for which to schedule a worker. |
Effort in hours |
Enter the number of hours for which to schedule a worker. |
Resource requirements field group |
On the Skills, Project experience, Certifications, Education, and Other worker attributes tabs, enter the worker attributes that are applicable for the activity. You can specify whether the attribute is required for the activity, and you can set a priority for the attribute. |
Booking type |
Indicates whether the scheduled booking is hard or soft for a worker who is scheduled for the activity. Select the assigned worker name, scheduled date, scheduled hours, and whether the scheduled booking is hard or soft. |
Transaction type |
Select the type of transaction to use for the activity costs, such as Fee, Hour, Expense, or Item. The transaction type that you select determines the project categories that you can select in the Project category field. |
Project category |
Select a category to use when you post costs to the project activity. Warning The available project categories are determined by the value that you select in the Transaction type field. |
Sales category |
Select a category for items that are sold in the project. Note This field is available only if you selected Item in the Transaction type field. |
Quantity |
Enter the number of hours or items that are used by the activity. |
Unit sales price |
Enter the value per unit that you invoice to the customer. This value is multiplied by the quantity to determine the total sales price for the transaction type. |
Unit cost price |
Enter the cost per unit. This value is multiplied by the quantity to determine the total cost for the transaction type. |
Line property |
Select whether you want to charge the customer for the transaction type. For example, you can assign a line property of Chargeable to indicate that the selected transaction cost can be invoiced to the customer. |
