Μail merge

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem with my personal Outlook.com account.

The problem started immediately after I initiated a mail merge directly through Outlook on the web. I did not open Microsoft Word or any other application to perform the mail merge. Instead, I selected the mail merge option directly from the “Send” field within Outlook on the web.

After initiating the mail merge, the Drafts folder became stuck in a continuous synchronization/clearing process. There is currently no email in the Drafts folder, as the problematic draft has already been deleted, but the folder continues to show a spinning/loading indicator and appears to be stuck on “Clearing this folder”.

I have already tried the following:

  • Deleted the problematic draft.
  • Cleared the Deleted Items folder.
  • Accessed Outlook.com directly through a web browser.
  • Tried using a private/incognito browser window.
  • Confirmed that the issue persists in the web version as well.

I can still send and receive emails normally. However, the Drafts folder remains stuck and does not complete the clearing/synchronization process.

Since the problem also occurs directly on Outlook.com and in a private browser session, it does not appear to be related to the local Outlook application, browser cache, or my computer.

Could you please check my mailbox on the server side and clear/reset any stuck draft, synchronization, or folder state associated with my account?

I would especially appreciate it if you could investigate whether the mail merge operation initiated through Outlook on the web caused a stuck or corrupted draft/folder state.

Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi @Christos Mimigiannis

Thank you for providing the detailed information and listing the troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

Since the Drafts folder remains stuck on “Clearing folder” in Outlook.com, including in a private browser window, the issue does not appear to be related to the Outlook desktop application, browser cache, or your computer.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors cannot access your mailbox backend or manually clear a stuck server-side operation. As you have already deleted the draft, emptied the Deleted Items folder, and reproduced the issue directly in Outlook.com, I recommend contacting Outlook.com Support so they can investigate the mailbox state.

    To contact support:

    • Go to Contact Microsoft Support.
    • Select Show expanded list of products.
    • Select Outlook > Get Home support.
    • Enter Outlook live chat, then select Get Help > Contact Support.
    • Sign in with the affected account. If that is not possible, use another Microsoft account to view the available support options.
    • Ask our Support Assistant > Type "Talk to live chat agent" > Contact Support
    • Under Products & Services, select Other Products > Outlook, then choose Chat with a support agent in your web browser.

In the meantime, since sending and receiving email still works normally, I recommend avoiding another mail merge from Outlook on the web until the Drafts folder issue has been reviewed.
