Hi team,

We have devices that are listed twice, or three times, with the same device ID but different names in defender under asset >devices . This happens when we offboard a user, we wipe his computer and then assign it to another person, so the device name changes but the ID remains the same. We would like to know how to remove the duplicate devices.

Thanks for your help.

@J-3804, Thanks for posting in Q&A. To delete device in Intune, we can delete it in Intune admin center or delete devices with cleanup rules. Here is a link with more details.

For the duplicate device records in Defender for Endpoint, there's no option to remove devices directly.

    User's image

You can set data retention configuration for Endpoint to let it auto delete after a period of time inactive. Meanwhile, you can configure tag for these duplicate device records to exclude from threat reports or threat and vulnerability management. Here is a link with more details.,

Hope the above information can help.
