I am writing to you regarding a storage issue that has arisen within our educational institution’s Microsoft 365 account. We have noticed a sudden decrease in our OneDrive storage capacity from 1 terabyte to 100 gigabytes, which has significantly impacted our workflow.

We would like to inquire about the reason for this change and how we can restore our original storage capacity to ensure the continuity of efficient operations. Our institution heavily relies on cloud storage for saving documents and educational materials, and this unexpected reduction in storage space could potentially disrupt our educational processes.

Please provide us with the necessary steps to resolve this issue and reinstate our storage capacity to its previous state.

Dear Omar,

Besides what Vincent provides, you can also refer to the detailed information in Microsoft 365 Education updates - Microsoft Community Hub.

Users of Office 365 A1 (free SKU) will be limited to a maximum of 100GB for OneDrive storage, within the 100TB of pooled storage for the institution. Customers will have the option to purchase incremental storage based on needs.

If you need further help on buying more storage and if you aren't the administrator, I suggest you contact the administrator in your tenant and let him let him follow the steps in Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn to open a support ticket to our related team as soon as possible.

Microsoft made some changes in terms of storage entitlements to educational licenses.

It would seem additional storage now needs to be purchased either as outright storage purchase, or adding paid licenses to increase base storage entitlements.
