Authenticator needs code from Authenticator

I am not my IT tech so please forgive me for any inaccuracies.

I have a work account that recently underwent changes and an azure directory migration? And now needs authenticator to work. The issue is I need to connect using a code from microsoft authenticator. Except authenticator is asking for a code from itself which obviously I can't get because I am not connected to authenticator.

The weird thing is it also shows in my list of accounts on authenticator but won't receive any sign in notifications. I have tried deleting every microsoft related account and reinstalling, had the IT support staff delete my registered devices, reset my MFA, but I still can't connect. I also hadn't setup any recovery methods because all I needed to sign in before was my password, or have the IT techs reset my password if I ever forgot it.

Tried talking to our IT support techs but they also do not know how to get me out of that loop.

I would be grateful if I or an IT admin could get log back into my account.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello, I’m Virginia, a fellow user like yourself.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems.

When asked for a code there should be another option to enter your password instead.

Deleting the Authenticator account wouldn’t work as it doesn’t turn off 2 factor authentication. Was the app set to backup to the cloud? If so & the backup is dated before you removed the account/s then you can delete & reinstall the app & during set up choose recovery. Otherwise you’d have to use one of the backup codes shown during setting up 2 factor authentication.

We have no access to accounts so cannot turn off this feature for you & Microsoft cannot do this either.

If you’re using Windows/Authenticator in a work environment then you may also post on a more dedicated forum for corporate users:
