    Dear @lee klaassen,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand you’re experiencing issues with transitions not working in your PowerPoint Online presentation. This is a common issue when working with the web-based version of the application. The core issue is likely related to compatibility or browser limitations, as PowerPoint Online handles transitions differently than the desktop application.

Here are the most common reasons why transitions might not be working in PowerPoint Online, and what you can do to fix them:

    1.Browser Compatibility Issues

PowerPoint Online relies heavily on your web browser's ability to render complex animations.

    • Try switching to a different, fully updated browser (like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge). Sometimes, older versions of browsers or less-common browsers may not execute the transition effects correctly.
    • If your computer is running many other programs, the browser might struggle with the transitions, especially complex ones. Close unnecessary tabs and applications.

    2.Transition Type Limitations

PowerPoint Online does not support all the same transitions that are available in the desktop version of PowerPoint.

Complex 3D transitions (like Morph, which is sometimes enabled by default but requires the desktop app to fully function) or highly detailed effects may be disabled or rendered as simple cuts in the online version.

    1. Select a slide.
    2. Go to the Transitions tab.
    3. Choose a very basic, guaranteed transition like Fade or Wipe.
    4. Try running the slideshow again. If the basic transition works, your original choice was likely not supported online.

3.The Slide Show View vs. Editing View

Transitions are only visible when you are actively running the presentation in "Slide Show" mode, not when you are editing.

Ensure you are entering the correct viewing mode:

    1. Go to the Slide Show tab.
    2. Click "From Beginning" or "From Current Slide."
    3. Advance the slides to check if the transitions appear.
    4. Check for Updates to the Slide

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, please tell me which specific transition you are trying to use (e.g., Fade, Push, Morph), as this will help narrow down the issue.

If possible, could you also provide a screenshot of the "Transitions" tab in PowerPoint Online showing the transition you have selected?

I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this. Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments so I can continue to support you. I'm looking forward to your reply.

If transitions are not working in PowerPoint for the web, it could be due to the limitations of the platform. PowerPoint for the web supports only a limited set of transitions and animations. Specifically, it allows for eight transitions and 37 animations. If you are trying to use transitions or animations that are not supported by PowerPoint for the web, they will not function as expected.

Additionally, while the transitions you have applied may be preserved in the presentation, they cannot be modified in PowerPoint for the web. To access a broader range of transitions and to create custom animations, you would need to use the PowerPoint desktop app instead.

Make sure to check the transitions you are trying to use and confirm that they are among those supported by PowerPoint for the web.
