Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi @Damaris Moreno,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I can understand the needs to use an account on two different devices. If you're using the work account, the good news is you usually don’t need to buy another license. Microsoft 365 is licensed per user, and once you’re licensed, you can install and activate the Office apps on multiple devices simply by signing in on each device. In fact, each licensed user can use the apps on up to five PCs/Macs, five tablets, and five phones, all at the same time.
You can see: Overview of licensing and activation in Microsoft 365 Apps
Now, depending on whether you’re adding another device for yourself or adding a second user, here are the steps that often help:
1/ If it’s your same account on two devices:
First, on the second device, go to portal.office.com, sign in with your work account, and choose Install apps. Your apps will activate automatically when you sign in, no product keys required.
Next, if you ever see a message that you’ve reached the device/sign‑in limit, you can free a slot. From your account’s Office apps & devices page, simply sign out of Office on an older device, that deactivates the apps there and lets you sign in on the new device.

2/ If you’re adding a second user who needs the apps:
If, instead, someone else needs to use Microsoft 365, you’ll want to add one more license and assign it to that user (you'll need admin privileges to follow this):
- First, buy the extra license in the Microsoft 365 admin center: Billing > Your products > select the subscription > Buy licenses.
You can see the detailed instructions here: Buy or remove licenses for a Microsoft business subscription.
- Then, assign the license to the user: Users > Active users > select the user > Licenses & apps > toggle on the product > Save changes.
- You can also assign from Billing > Licenses > Assign licenses, which shows total seats across subscriptions for the same product.
You can see the detailed instructions here: Assign or unassign licenses for users in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
I hope this information is helpful. Please follow these steps and let me know if it works for you. If not, we can work together to resolve this.
Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.
I look forward to continuing the conversation.
