Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    Step 1:

Uninstall all the traces of Office applications installed on your device.

Run the Office Uninstall troubleshooter here -

    https://aka.ms/SaRA-officeUninstallFromPC

This will open the Get Help app on your device.

Follow the prompts on the troubleshooter to completely remove Office apps on your device.

    Step 2:

Delete the Office configuration folder from the registry settings.

Click Windows + R key, type regedit.exe, and click ok.

    Navigate to :

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office

Right-click the Office folder and click Delete.

    User's image

    Also check ,

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\ClickToRun

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

(Delete the ClickToRun and Office folders in these locations)

Once deleted, restart your computer and install the Office applications.

See if you are experiencing the same problem again.

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.

Follow these steps in order to try to repair the corrupted Office installation on Windows.

    1. Run an Online Repair of Office (Windows 10/11)
    1. Close all Office apps (Word, Excel, etc.).
    2. Right‑click the Start button.
      • Windows 11: select Installed apps.
      • Windows 10: select Apps and Features.
    3. Find Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office in the list.
    4. Select it, then choose Modify (or the three dots (…) > Modify).
    5. When asked how to repair:
      • For Click‑to‑Run: choose Online Repair > Repair to fully reinstall and fix corrupted components. (Quick Repair only replaces corrupted files and may not be enough.)
      • For MSI-based: choose Repair in Change your installation and select Continue.
    6. Let the repair complete and then restart the PC.

If the in‑app “Repair now” dialog fails, this full Online Repair is the next step and often fixes cases where all Office apps are broken.

    1. Repair from Control Panel (Windows 7/8.1/older style) If using Control Panel instead of Settings:
    1. Click Start > Control Panel.
    2. Under Programs, select Uninstall a program.
    3. Select the Office product (for example, Microsoft 365 Family, Office Home & Student 2016, or a standalone Word/Excel).
    4. Click Change.
    5. Then:
Click‑to‑Run: in How would you like to repair your Office Programs, select Online Repair > Repair.
MSI-based: in Change your installation, select Repair > Continue.
    6. Follow the on‑screen steps and restart when finished.
    1. Check and repair Windows system files If Office still will not repair or reinstall, Windows itself may be corrupted.

    Run System File Checker (SFC):

    1. Right‑click Start and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows Terminal (Admin).
    2. Run:
    sfc /scannow

    1. Wait for the scan to complete, then try the Office Online Repair or reinstall again.

On Windows 8.1, also run DISM if needed:

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    Then retry the Office installation/repair.

    1. As a last resort: Reset Windows while keeping files If Office and Windows are both badly corrupted and none of the above works, perform a Windows reset that keeps personal files:
    1. Open Settings > Update & security > Recovery.
    2. Under Reset this PC, select Get started.
    3. Choose Keep my files.
    4. Follow the prompts to reinstall Windows.
    5. After reset completes, reinstall Office from the Microsoft account or installation source.

This reset removes apps (including Office) and system corruption but keeps personal documents and pictures.
