Selecting Text to Paste

Question

I'm unable to highlight and select text to delete and copy and paste.

I'm using Mac

How can I fix this or how do I go back to default settings?

On Word for Mac, this issue is commonly caused by a temporary bug in Word or macOS, or by a system update that fixes the behavior.

Use these steps in order:

1. Quit and restart Word
   • Close all Word documents.
   • Quit Word completely (Word > Quit Word).
   • Reopen Word and test selecting text with the mouse/trackpad.
2. Use keyboard selection as a workaround
   • Place the insertion point where selection should start.
   • Hold Shift and use the arrow keys to extend the selection.
   • Use ⌘+C to copy, ⌘+X to cut, and ⌘+V to paste.
3. Update macOS
