Hello gurvinder, good day and thanks for your question. Sorry to know about this and I understand that you are having an issue with regards to the payment details for your Microsoft subscription.

If your card is up to date and you have also verified that it is working for other purchase that you made online, please check and try this on a different browser or by using inPrivate or Incognito browsing and another alternative is to link your card to PayPal and use it as payment method. Please see below for other things that you can also check with regards to this issue.

    • Enter your name precisely as it appears on the card and only include your middle initial if it appears on your card.
    • If this is a company card, enter the company name as both a first name and last name. For example, if the company name is "My Company" you may split the company name into the first and last name fields.
    • If the company only has one name, for example, "Company," enter the company name in both the first and last name fields.
    • If you are asked to enter the address and it exceeds the Address 1 field, use the Address 2 field and do not shorten or abbreviate your address.
    • The card number and type cannot be edited, so if you make a mistake, you'll need to add a new one with the correct information. Other credit card information can be edited, such as billing address and expiration date.

If you will still encounter an issue even after trying out the alternatives, you can reach out to the support team at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/ and then click on Microsoft 365 and then click Get Home Support and then type in Billing question and click the blue button that says Sign in to contact Support and login and proceed from there.

PaymentAuthenticationVerificationFailed indicates a billing or payment authentication problem when redeeming or activating a Microsoft 365/Office product key.

Based on the provided context, the following actions are supported:

    1. Fix billing or payment issues on the Microsoft account
      • Go to the Microsoft account Payment & billing page for Office:
      • In the Pay settings section, select Change how you pay or Fix how you pay.
      • Update the payment method (for example, use a different card or correct existing card details) and save the changes.
      • After updating, try redeeming or activating the product key again.
    2. If the error persists after changing payment method
      • The Q&A context shows this error was resolved by changing the payment method. If the same method still fails, switch to another valid payment method (different card or bank account) and repeat the redemption/activation.
    3. If payment authentication is blocked by the bank (Strong Customer Authentication)
      • Some banks require multi-factor authentication (SCA/PSD2) when Microsoft tries to charge or verify the card.
      • When prompted, complete the bank’s authentication (code via SMS/email, app confirmation, etc.) following the instructions in the bank’s verification screen or email.
      • If no code is received from the bank:
        • Confirm the phone number and email registered with the bank.
        • Check the Junk/Spam folder for the bank’s verification email.
        • Ensure the device has network/cellular connectivity.
        • If no code arrives after a few minutes, use the Resend code option and check again.
      • If the code fails or the session times out, refresh the page, request a new code, and re-enter it.
      • If authentication still fails, contact the bank so they can validate the contact information and confirm that online payments and SCA for Microsoft charges are allowed.

If, after updating the payment method and completing any required bank authentication, the error still appears, contact Microsoft Support with details of the error and the steps already taken.
