Set up and use exchange rate services

Completed

You can set up the Currency Exchange Rates page to register currency exchange rates automatically by using an exchange rate service, such as FloatRates.

You can set up Business Central to exchange data in specific tables with data on external files, such as currency exchange rates. Typically, you would set up data exchange definitions on the Data Exchange Definition page. However, when you set up a data exchange definition for the service of refreshing currency exchange rates, you should usually start the process on the simplified Currency Exch. Rate Service page.

Set up an exchange rate service

If you want to set up the exchange rate with an exchange rate service, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search for Page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter currency exchange rate services, and then select the related link.

  2. Select the New action.

  3. Fill in the following fields on the Currency Exch. Rate Service page:

    • Code and Description - Specify the setup of a service to update currency exchange rates.

    • Service URL and Service Provider - Specify the URL and name of the service provider.

    • Enabled - After you have selected this option, job queue entries are created for the daily update of exchange rates. You will be asked to open the Job Queue Entries page.

Update exchange rates

If you didn't enable a job queue entry for automatic update of the currency exchange rates as provided by the external service, you must retrieve the information manually and on a periodical basis from the currency exchange rate service.

  1. Select the Search for Page icon in the top-right corner of the page, enter currencies, and then select the related link.

  2. Select the Exchange Rate Service action and then select the Update Exchange Rates action.

The value in the Exchange Rate field on the Currencies page is updated with the latest currency exchange rate.
