Missing annotations in Whiteboard from screen captures of Teams meeting

Hi,

I was taking screen captures during a recent Teams meeting and immediately opened Microsoft Whiteboard afterwards to review, however not all of the meeting annotations were saved? The strangest part is that from the annotations that were saved, some were saved in full, a few had some annotations and not others, and the remainder are completely missing all annotations.. but basically there seems to be no logic behind what was saved and what has been omitted.

Not sure if this is an internet issue, a Teams problem or something deeper with Whiteboard, but it's very problematic as these meetings can last 1-2 hours, so I've effectively lost all of the notes and updates for that time.

Thanks,

Matt

    Dear Matt,

Thank you for the reply and screenshots.

As you mentioned you are not able to recreate the issue from your side and you also suspect that there might be the issue of internet.

Moreover, I would also like to ask if the Teams App that your colleagues from Singapore and Barcelona are the latest version of Teams or not?

From your 1st group of screenshots, we can clearly see that there is some lagging while using the Whiteboard annotations in Teams.

From your 2nd group of screenshots, we couldn't reproduce the same scenario that was being observed while you're having the meeting.

In such scenario, I would suggest contacting your admin and ask him/her to submit the support ticket via below link:

or reference: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Let admin help you create a support ticket in Microsoft 365 Admin Center>Support>New service request.

The support team there has the correct escalation channel for this case. They have higher permission to remotely assist you.

This is also the most efficient way in handling this kind of issue.

I appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Hi AJ,

Thanks for your prompt reply, here is a capture of my Teams details:

I am confident I selected that everyone could annotate, as it was a collaborative meeting with 3 or 4 people sketching over. The following image highlights the apparent randomness of what was saved:

The first image is completely clear of all annotations, the second has one persons (but no one else) and the third has the original annotations, as well as one other persons... Oddly enough, I have not been able to recreate the problem:

Perhaps it was an internet issue? We had members connecting from Singapore to Barcelona.

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Dear Matt,

Good day and thank you for posting this in the forum.

As per the description that you have provided to us, I did the testing from my side and all the annotations were saved in Whiteboard.

So, I would like to ask you some simple questions:

    1. What version of Microsoft Teams are you using?
    2. Which option did you choose such as "Everyone can annotate" OR "Only I can annotate"? Use annotation while sharing your screen in Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support [4b5a-6361-f37-b2a7]

3.Could you also send me the screenshot of your whiteboard annotation? (Please remember to remove any confidential information while providing screenshots)

I would also like to reconfirm if the similar issue is happening with your colleague too? If it's possible, could you ask your colleague to create a test meeting and try to capture the annotation and if the missing or just a part of annotation are being seen in the test.

Moreover, you could also try clearing the cache from Teams too. Clear Teams cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

Please note that my first response may not resolve your current situation immediately. But, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a specific guidance for your current query.

I appreciate your precious time and understanding.

    Sincerely,
