Device management notification

This suddenly popped out of a device. What does this mean? What should we do?

"mddprov account has removed your workplace account and deleted all of the information associated with your workplace account (including business apps, password requirements, and other policies) from your device."

Have checked the Settings > Accounts and the account is still connected to that same device.

Following a Unified Support call with Microsoft I have an answer (of sorts) ... might not be everyone's answer but applied to our tenancy / our scenario. Unified Support referred us to the following notification: End of support guidance for Windows Information Protection

If you read through the article there's an important bit in the middle:

    .. as follows:

    1. November 1^^(or soon after) we will restrict creating new WIP ‘without enrollment’ policies from the Microsoft Intune admin center.
    2. Starting in December 2022, we will begin deregistration for devices utilizing WIP ‘without enrollment’. Refer to the Message Center for when this will occur for your organization. We plan on completing the deregistration in the following order:
      1. Devices receiving no effective policies.
      2. Devices receiving ‘disable WIP’ Policy.
      3. Devices receiving policy to configure WIP.

Important: Once the device is unregistered, users may see a notification indicating an account has been removed, “mddprov account has removed your workplace account…from your device.” You can safely disregard this message.

Hopefully this explains some of the craziness and also why Microsoft are not treating this as a problem (it's expected behaviour).

    Paul

    Hi All,

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

We understand you want to know why users received the notification when Microsoft 365 admin didn't make any changes.

Considering that different users from different tenants are experiencing the same issue, it seems more like a server side issue and need to be fixed from back end.

We have checked the current service incidents from our side but didn't find any related incident.

In this situation, we sincerely recommend you follow steps in this article Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn to raise a support ticket and report this issue to Microsoft support team.

The more reports they receive from different customers, the more likely they will be able to find something affects users in common, do investigation and fix it soon. They have higher permission and more resource than us. This would be the most efficient way in handling this case for you.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding! We hope you are keeping safe and well!

    Sincerely,

    Tina | Microsoft Community Moderator

Could this be a glitch? I received the same notification this afternoon and I have access to our company's M365 admin page that shows I am still connected.

Is anyone here finding that this issue also coincides with user account credentials constantly expiring in their office apps? I have users that keep having account errors in their microsoft apps that send them into a constant sign-in loop, or they cannot log in at all. I have already attempted erasing local credentials, caches in appdata, and editing the identity folder for Office in RegEdit. The issue goes away for a few days, but eventually just comes back. This all started happening the same time that these mddprov errors started popping up for our users.

    Dear Czarine,

Greetings! Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

The message means mddprov account has removed your personal device from Azure or Intune. Though you still can see the account connected via Settings > Accounts, next time if you sign out and then sign in, your account may not be connected. You may no longer have access to your Microsoft 365 subscription related resource, for example, cannot sign in Office apps with that account, cannot use the account to log in Windows.

Given this, we sincerely recommend you go to contact your Microsoft 365 administrator and confirm whether they have removed your account from Azure or Intune, check if it's the change they made.

Thanks for your time and cooperation! We hope you are keeping safe and well!
