Application Password not working

Hello!

I have created an app password under my Office 365 account (which is a global admin account). When I attempt to use the app password within the targeted application, it says its not correct/login failed. To test, I signed out of the Outlook desktop application and tried using the password there and got the generic password was incorrect error that you would normally get with an incorrect password.

I deleted the application password. Generated a new one and still getting the same thing. Does the application password take time to initiate?

Targeted application: MS Dynamics GP 2018

Thanks!

Any luck with this? We need to get app passwords to work with Jira Servicedesk. The older accounts with app password configured via https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/Proofup.aspx are still working ok, but ever since Microsoft changed app password configuration to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info, the new ones are NOT working

    Hello Katherine,

I was wondering if you have any suggestions that might assist me with this? I reached out the support two times, haven't gotten the call back in almost two weeks.

I'm really pressing for time now to get this working.

Update: Just heard back from support. They told me that app passwords doesn't work with modern authentication? I thought that was the point of the app password, to avoid having the MFA code sent to you? They are passing me over to Dynamics support even though the app password won't work with Outlook or any other app. This is becoming super frustrating...

    Thank you.

Hey! I couldn't figure out the app passwords for specific user accounts and unfortunately, support wasn't very helpful, but I sorted things out using the Entra (Azure Active Directory) Portal. I followed this guide: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-gp/whats-new/multi-factor-authentication.

The guide is specific for Dynamics GP, not Jira, but I would assume the process would be similar—I just don't know much about configuring Jira. Maybe this will help as well: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/create-issues-and-comments-from-email/

    Hi Katherine,

Thank you for the reply. I figured as much, this is the first time doing this so just wasn't sure if I was missing something in the process. A ticket has been submitted.

    Thanks!

    Dear Cody O'Meara,

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community.

Baed on your description, I know the scenario you met. For this situation, I am willing to help you but since it is really out of our support scope. I sincerely suggest you get support from our backend side technical support Team because our forum lacks relevant knowledge and permissions, so to better help you, please kindly try to create a service ticket in the Microsoft 365 admin center to support > service requests through navigation, as they have more access permissions than on this forum, and professional engineers will further help you. Thanks in advance for your understanding! Your patience and cooperation will be highly appreciated. Hope you all the best!

    Sincerely,

    Katherine
