Hello Microsoft Support, My Microsoft 365 tenant was created for my domain [Moderator note: personal info removed] but the admin account was never provisioned. Every admin URL (admin.microsoft.com, portal.office.com, signup links) redirects me to the signup wizard or personal account recovery. I cannot access the admin portal. Please repair the tenant provisioning and assign a Global Administrator to my domain. Thank you.

Kind regards

[Moderator note: personal info removed]

    Hi @Gloss & Order,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue with accessing your Microsoft 365 Admin Center. I understand how important it is to manage your subscription effectively, and we’re here to help.

When you first purchased your Microsoft 365 subscription, Microsoft sent a confirmation email to the address you used during registration. This email included your admin account details, which typically follow the format: [******@yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com ]
This domain is used for your initial setup and administrative purposes. It allows you to start using Microsoft services immediately, even if you haven’t yet set up a custom domain.
You can later add and verify your own custom domain to replace or use alongside the default onmicrosoft.com domain.

Please note that the email address used for purchasing and receiving notifications is different from the admin account required to sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

If you’re unsure of your admin account, we recommend:

    • Searching your inbox for keywords such as “Microsoft” or “onmicrosoft.com” to locate the original confirmation email.
    • Checking any folders where automated emails might have been filtered (e.g., Spam or Promotions).

Once you locate your admin account and successfully sign in at https://admin.microsoft.com, you can add the domain you want for this tenant.

    You can follow these steps:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with your admin credentials.
    2. Go to the "Domains" page and click on "Add domain" >Enter the domain name you want to use and click on "Next".
    3. User's image
    4. Follow the prompts to verify your domain ownership.
    5. Once your domain is verified, you can create user accounts and assign licenses to them.

Also, you can refer to this article: Add a domain to Microsoft 365 - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

If you still can’t locate that email and you are the only admin in your organization, this situation requires immediate contact with Microsoft’s Data Protection Team. Please note that only the Data Protection Team has the necessary permissions to reset your account from the backend. They are the designated and authorized team for handling account-related issues of this nature.

Option 1: Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by Phone (Primary Method)

To regain access to your admin account as you can't access the Admin Portal, you can try reaching out to our Global Customer Service phone to raise a request for resetting your authentication method here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. During the call, request to speak to an agent, and share with them every detail related to your query and also mention that you are the only admin lost access to your account. This should allow you to contact the appropriate team so you can solve this incident as soon as possible.

Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

In some countries, it is an automated conversation like:

IVR: What kind of problem are you concerned about?

    You: Authenticator.

IVR: What kind of product do you use?

    You: Office 365 for business.

IVR confirmation: education or company account?

    You: For companies

    IVR: Are you an administrator?

    You: Yes.

IVR: Do you have another administrator in your organization?

    You: No.

IVR: Do you need a... Service request?

You: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me direct to the Data Protection Team.

Option 2: Create a Temporary Account (Trial Tenant) to Submit a Support Ticket (Alternative Method)

If you still cannot reach to a live agent, there is still a workaround, you might consider registering for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription via this link Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365. This would allow you to create a new tenant following the prompts provided. Once set up, you can access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with the Data Protection team on behalf of your previous tenant.

Please note that forum moderators do not have access to user account settings and cannot assist with logging in, resetting passwords, or changing access rights. While we do not have access to internal systems or administrative tools required to resolve account-specific or backend-related issues but we’ll continue doing our best to support you within the scope of our responsibilities.

If your Microsoft 365 tenant was created but the admin account was never provisioned, you will need to follow specific steps to regain access. Since you are being redirected to the signup wizard or personal account recovery, it indicates that the system does not recognize an admin account for your tenant.

Here are the steps you can take:

    1. Confirm Account: Ensure that you are using the correct email associated with your tenant. Sometimes, using a different email can lead to redirection issues.
    2. Submit a Support Request: If you cannot access the admin portal, you may need to submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 support page. Select the option for account access issues and provide necessary details about your tenant.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support: If you are unable to resolve the issue through the support page, consider contacting Microsoft support directly for assistance. They can help verify your identity and assist in provisioning an admin account.
    4. Check with IT Partner: If your tenant was created or is managed by an IT partner, reach out to them for support in recovering access.

Unfortunately, Microsoft cannot manually provision an admin account without going through the identity verification process. You will need to follow the official support channels for resolution.
