Blocked account from "multiple wrong password" attempts even after password reset

Hello, I've been trying to access my outlook mail account with no success. I was logged in on my phone, but after trying to log in through web browser, was asked to authenticate with app (which failed to deliver numerical codes) so then resorted to verification through phone/other linked mail, but just got repeatedly sent to reset password forms. After finally giving in, I reset it without problems and logically got logged out from all devices. But sadly couldn't log in with new passwords even after waiting 24-48+ hours after each new attempt with new password. So yeah, lost access on my phone too and all I get is "I tried too many times with wrong passwords"... No answers from account recovery forms yet. If anyone has any answer or tips on other ways to try recovering access I would be very grateful. Thanks.

It sounds like you're experiencing an account lockout due to multiple incorrect password attempts. When a user account in a managed domain is locked out, it typically happens after a defined threshold of unsuccessful sign-in attempts is reached. By default, if there are 5 bad password attempts in 2 minutes, the account is locked out for 30 minutes.

Here are some steps you can take to regain access:

    1. Wait for the Lockout Period: If your account is locked out, you may need to wait for the lockout period to expire before trying to log in again.
    2. Use the Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR): If you have set up SSPR, you can try to reset your password again using your security information. Make sure the phone number and email address associated with your account are correct and able to receive verification codes.
    3. Contact Support: If you're still unable to access your account after the lockout period, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance. You can find the appropriate contact at Support for Business Products.
    4. Check for Account Recovery Options: If you have access to any recovery options or backup email addresses, ensure that you check those for any recovery links or codes that may have been sent.

If you continue to face issues, it may be beneficial to have someone from your organization who has admin privileges assist you with the recovery process.

    Hi Max Alcantara

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand how frustrating it is to keep seeing "multiple wrong password attempts" error even after resetting your password and trying different verification methods.

Could you confirm whether you’ve tried the steps mentioned in the AI Assist reply above? If yes, did you face any difficulties with those steps?

Also, you mentioned you've submitted account recovery form but haven't received any responses yet. How long has it been since you submitted? Recovery forms typically take 24-48 hours, sometimes up to 72 hours and you may refine/ resubmit up to twice per day.

Please see this official guide to help you fill out the form more accurately: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form- Microsoft Support

    What to do while waiting:

    1. Check for Recovery Form response

    • Check the alternate email you provided in the form
    • Look in spam/junk folders from Microsoft

    2. Stop all login attempts

Multiple attempts trigger additional security blocks. Please stop all sign-in attempts for at least 24 hours then try again on a different browser/ device/ network. You can also clear your browser cache/cookies before starting recovery process again.

    3. If 72+ hours with no response

If the recovery form fails, please reach out directly to Contact - Microsoft Support

    • Search for "Account Recovery" in the search box.
    • Click "Get Help" and press Enter, then scroll to the bottom and select "Contact Support”.
    • Look for and select "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" (during business hours) or a similar callback option (if available). Explain your situation clearly. User's image
    • Persistence: It can sometimes take multiple attempts to reach a helpful agent or to get your case escalated. Some agents may still direct you back to the form, please let them know you’ve exhausted that option and request further assistance.
    • Please note that The Chat support team only works at certain times, so if the last window says you are not available, try to open it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can contact you back and help you further.

For more details, you can check these official guidelines:

Thank you for your understanding and patience. Feel free to let me know how it goes.
