Hi Trav Well
Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Q&A Forum!
I can understand it is frustrating to deal with an unexpected charge, but rest assured that I will help you to get the detailed steps to investigate the charge and potentially help you get a refund.
As suggested by the Q&A Assist AI, it gave a good structure but wasn't detailed enough, please allow me to guide you step by step on how to go on with this.
How to Investigate the Unknown Charge
Follow these steps to see what you were charged for:
- Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that might have been charged.
- Scroll through your Order history.
- Find the $34 charge.
- Click “Investigate” next to the transaction.
- Microsoft will tell you what the charge is, what product it belongs to, and if anyone else in your family group used your payment method. If the charge still doesn’t look familiar after that, move on to requesting a refund.
Steps to Request a Refund
Microsoft requires you to cancel the subscription first before they can evaluate refund eligibility.
- Visit: https://account.microsoft.com/services
- Sign in with the account connected to the charge.
- Find the subscription that caused the charge.
- Click Manage.
- Click Cancel (or “Upgrade or Cancel” depending on what you see).
- Follow the cancellation prompts.
- After canceling, you will be shown whether you’re eligible for a refund and can continue the refund request from there.
If the online steps don’t resolve it, you can try contacting Microsoft Support directly.
- Go to: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus
- Type “Billing refund” in the box.
- Select Billing as the category.
- Choose Chat with a support agent
Hope you'll get this sorted out. Have a great day!
