Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hello JosephStauder-3840,
Thank you for reaching out in Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand that the verification code generated by Microsoft Authenticator is being rejected when you try to sign in to your Microsoft account.
This usually happens when the Authenticator app is no longer properly synchronized with your account. Common causes include changing phones, reinstalling the app, device time not being synced automatically, or recently updating your security information.
Please try these steps:
- Check device time settings
- Make sure your phone’s date and time are set to Automatic, then reopen Microsoft Authenticator and generate a new code.
- Confirm you are using the correct account entry
- If your Microsoft account appears more than once in Authenticator, remove duplicates and use the most recent entry.
- Remove and re-add Microsoft Authenticator
- Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/security
- Go to Advanced security options
- Remove Microsoft Authenticator from your verification methods
- Add it again by scanning the new QR code
- If you cannot sign in to security settings
- Use Microsoft’s account recovery process to regain access and reset your verification methods: https://account.live.com/acsr
If Authenticator was set up on an old phone that you no longer have access to, recovery is required before new codes will work.
Let me know how it goes
