Hi All,

My consulting firm started a project under it MS Startup Account and I want to separate it out to its own account. I just started an LLC for it. What are the steps?

Azure | Azure Startups
Azure | Azure Startups

Startups: Companies that are in their initial stages of business and typically developing a business model and seeking financing.

    Hi @tony perez

    Thanks for reaching us regarding

    • No direct transfer of projects, subscriptions, or Azure credits between different legal entities/accounts (credits are tied to the original enrollment). Official confirmation: Azure Credits & Billing FAQs – benefits can't be shared/merged across accounts.
    • Best path: Apply for a new Founders Hub account under the LLC > Apply here or foundershub.startups.microsoft.com. Use LLC details (EIN, docs) for approval.
    • Migrate resources manually: Export via ARM templates/Azure CLI, recreate in the new sub. (No auto-move for sponsorships.)
    • For credits: Submit a support ticket in the original Founders Hub portal (? icon → Submit a Support Ticket) requesting "Azure Sponsorship credit transfer" or "entitlement transfer" to the new LLC account. Include sub IDs, reason, and LLC proof. Support can sometimes reassign (case-by-case, esp. for team/entity changes): See this guidance and credits FAQ.

To separate your project from your Microsoft Startup Account into its own account, you will typically need to follow these steps:

    1. Create a New Microsoft Account: If you haven't already, create a new Microsoft account for your LLC.
    2. Set Up a New Azure Subscription: Once your new account is created, set up a new Azure subscription under your LLC. This will allow you to manage resources independently from your consulting firm's account.
    3. Migrate Resources: Depending on what resources you have in your current account, you may need to migrate them to the new account. This can include virtual machines, databases, and other services. Microsoft provides documentation on how to move resources between subscriptions.
    4. Update Billing Information: Ensure that the billing information for the new account reflects your LLC's details.
    5. Review Compliance and Legal Considerations: Since you are separating a project into its own entity, make sure to review any compliance or legal requirements that may apply to your new LLC.
    6. Consult Microsoft Support: If you encounter any issues during the migration process, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for assistance.

These steps will help you set up your project under its own account effectively.
