Hi, I'm Bernard. I'm happy to help!

If your payment is up to date, you may disregard this message. However, if you continue to receive the notification for an extended period, I recommend removing your payment method and adding it again by following the steps below:

    Go to this link: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments

    Remove the old payment option.

    Select "Add payment method"

Then follow the prompts to add.

Note: This is a public forum. I may respond shortly, but I apologize in advance for any delays. I am simply a fellow user trying to provide helpful insights and information.

Hi, thank you for replying. Yes, if there is no problem with the payment itself. That would be the next step. I am glad it is now all good.

The warning in Word is typically caused by a billing or subscription status issue, even after a card has been updated. Use these steps to clear it:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active and not past due
    2. Verify or fix the payment method for the subscription
Even if the card was updated, the subscription might still be tied to the old method.
      • On the same Services & subscriptions page, find the Microsoft 365 subscription and select ManageChange how you pay.
      • If you see Pay now, there is still a past-due balance; follow the steps to pay it.
      • Choose the correct, valid payment method or select Add a new way to pay and add the updated card.
      • Save the changes.
For more detail, see Change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options.
    3. Check for general payment option issues
If the new card still fails or won’t save, there may be a bank or payment-option problem.
      • Make sure the card is not expired and has sufficient funds.
      • If using PayPal, ensure it has a valid funding source.
      • If you see a message to contact support when removing an old payment option, there may still be a past-due balance that must be paid first.
        See Troubleshoot payment option issues.
    4. Close and reopen Word (or restart the device)
After fixing any past-due status and confirming the active payment method, close Word and other Office apps, or restart the device. Then open Word again and check if the warning is gone.
    5. If the banner persists but billing looks correct
      • Confirm there are no other Microsoft 365 subscriptions under a different Microsoft account that might be expired.
      • If everything shows as active and paid, but the warning continues, contact Microsoft Support from the account/billing pages so they can check the subscription state on the backend.

If no action is taken on a real billing problem, Office will eventually go into reduced functionality mode (can open/print but not edit or create documents), so resolving any past-due or payment-method issues is important.
