Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hi, Michael Bek
Office included with a new PC is usually activated through the Microsoft account used during the original setup, rather than by entering the product key again. If that account belonged to a former employer, the license may also have belonged to the company.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
Open Word and select File > Account. Under Product Information, check whether an email address appears next to Belongs to. This may identify the account used for activation.
Try each personal email address at Services & subscriptions. The correct account should show the Office product or Microsoft 365 subscription.
If you cannot remember the username, use the Microsoft account username lookup. It can show an account hint using a recovery phone number or email address.
Contact Samsung Korea or the original retailer with the notebook serial number and proof of purchase. Ask them to confirm whether the “student package” was a permanent Office license, a limited subscription, or only a trial.
If neither the original account nor proof of purchase can be recovered, the old license normally cannot be restored. A new Microsoft 365 or Office license would then be required.
