MSN Explorer: About setting junk e-mail filter levels

You can set the level of filtering that you want the junk e-mail filter to use when your e-mail is delivered. Setting the filter level helps train the filter to recognize junk e-mail and deliver it to the appropriate folder. You can choose from these filter levels:

  • Exclusive: Only messages from people in your address book, people who are on your safe list, and messages from MSN regarding your service are delivered to your Inbox. All other messages are sent directly to your Junk E-Mail folder.

  • Strong: Messages with a junk e-mail rating of Medium, High, or Very High are sent to your Junk E-Mail folder. Some messages that are not junk e-mail may be sent to the Junk E-Mail folder while you train the filter. All other messages are sent to your Inbox.

  • Moderate: Messages with a junk e-mail rating of High or Very High are sent to your Junk E-Mail folder. All other messages are sent to your Inbox. Some junk e-mail may be sent to your Inbox.

  • Light: Messages with a junk e-mail rating of Very High are sent to your Junk E-Mail folder. All other messages are sent to your Inbox.

  • Minimal: Only the most obvious junk e-mail is sent to your Junk E-Mail folder. All other messages are sent to your Inbox.

Note

  • Messages more than seven days old are automatically deleted from the Junk E-Mail folder.

  • If you access your MSN Mail through Windows Live Hotmail, you can delete junk e-mail immediately, rather than after seven days. When you use this feature in Windows Live Hotmail, junk e-mail is also automatically deleted in MSN Mail. To change this setting, sign in to the Windows Live Hotmail website, and open the Options page.
