Hi Guys

I am doing my Azure fundamentals on architecture and I am on the Exercise - Create an Azure resource the issue for me is I want to to create a virtual machine followed these steps Task 1: Create a virtual machine

In this task, you’ll create a virtual machine using the Azure portal.

Sign in to the Azure portal.

Select Create a resource > Compute > Virtual Machine > Create.

The Create a virtual machine pane opens to the basics tab.

  1. Verify or enter the following values for each setting. If a setting isn’t specified, leave the default value.

stuck on number 2 because when I go to compute Virtual Machine is not available User's image

If I go back to create a resource Virtual machine is there and when i click on create virtual machine its forcing me to create another subscription

User's image

of which it wont be linked to my current learn sandbox

Is there no other way of creating a VM before I use my credit card to subscribe for the free account or i am missing something how am i supposed to learn if i am being forced to subscribe in order to access these features that are supposed to be available for free or I am misinterpreting things

Your assistance is greatly appreciated on this issue because i am kind of stuck in my training

    Hello, @Tarisai Douglas !

    Where am I seeing this?

Why am I being asked to create another subscription when creating a Virtual Machine?

This sounds like an issue of either an expired sandbox, or being automatically signed in to a subscription other than the sandbox when you go to the portal.

First, make sure your sandbox is active and that you have enough time remaining to complete the exercise.

Second, you are using the sandbox when you use the Azure Portal:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/support/faq?pivots=sandbox#how-do-i-sign-in-to-the-sandbox-when-i-use-the-azure-portal

You can tell whether you're in the sandbox by looking at the directory listed under your name in the upper-right corner. It should say Microsoft Learn Sandbox.

"Microsoft Learn Sandbox" shown in the upper-right corner under your name

If you are on your own subscription in the portal, you'll need to change:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/support/faq?pivots=sandbox#what-if-im-not-in-the-right-subscription

If you sign in to the portal and are in your own subscription (or you sign in to your subscription and end up in the sandbox), one of two things might be wrong. Either you haven't activated the sandbox or your Azure settings put you in a default directory. You can change the directory by selecting the Directory and Subscription filter button on the toolbar along the top.

"Directory and Subscription filter" button on the toolbar

The button opens a drop-down list where you can select the correct directory. You can also change the Set your default directory setting to the directory that you work in most often.

Settings menu for "Directory + subscription," where you can select your default directory

When you activate the new sandbox, the old sandbox environment is destroyed, along with any resources created in it.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you run into any issues in the comments!
